Savings Analysis

Resource Lens does not merely repeat Azure Advisor. It cross-checks native recommendations against cost, inventory, utilization, activity, pricing, and configuration evidence, then surfaces uncertainty and required validation alongside each opportunity.

What it does

  • Focuses analysis on selected subscriptions and resource types.
  • Uses Azure Resource Graph inventory, Cost Management, Advisor, Monitor metrics, activity logs, and retail pricing where access and data are available.
  • Summarizes monthly spend, potential monthly savings, and annualized impact.
  • Ranks recommendations by estimated savings, confidence, and risk.
  • Prevents reruns from inflating dashboard totals by using the latest completed analysis.
  • Streams live status and trace events while a run is working.
  • Pauses safely when the analysis needs clarification or additional access, then resumes after the user responds.
  • Supports cancellation, reruns, run-title editing, deletion, pagination, and filtering by subscription, date, or user.

Why it matters

Leadership can focus on defensible opportunities while engineering teams retain the evidence and constraints needed to challenge, validate, or reject them.

How it works

  1. Choose subscriptions and Azure resource types in the run guide.
  2. Resource Lens reads the selected scope using configured read-only permissions.
  3. Follow progress in real time and respond if the analysis requests information or access.
  4. Review spend, savings potential, evidence, and recommendations in the completed run.
